Thais Guisasola

Thais Guisasola is a Brazilian/American director and screenwriter. She lived in New York for 7 years and graduated in Cinema and Political Philosophy from Hampshire College in Massachusetts, USA. In 2010, Thais studied Film Screenwriting in Havana, Cuba, where she filmed her first short film "Ventanas para tus colores". In 2018, she premiered her debut feature film "The Whisper of the Jaguar", at Documenta 14 in Kassel, Germany, curated by Paul B. Preciado. She filmed the project while traveling through the Brazilian Amazon Forest and was awarded Best Director Prize from the Cartagena International Film Festival, FICCI, in Colombia. In 2022, as a screenwriter, Thais premiered PIAFFE, a feature film she wrote alongside the director Ann Oren. PIAFFE was exhibited at the Locarno Film Festival in the International Competition. Queerness and ancestral knowledges are central themes in Thais’ work, and she is, together with Julia Anquier, developing their feature film SANGUEIRO, as authors and directors.
